History
The settlement was organized as “Round Lake Township in the year 1857. In 1860, the name was changed to “Grow Township” in honor of Senator Galusha Grow, a strong supporter of the Union. At the time, the population of the fledgling township was 330. It was not until 1972 that the town experienced rapid population growth. To better serve the needs of the residents, the board supervisors voted to incorporate and hence the name was changed to “Andover Village” due to the historical interest with the Andover train station. Cityhood was achieved in 1974 and was henceforth known as the City of Andover.

There is also a small area in the northern part of the city which is part of the Anoka-Isanti Independent School District 15.

Pappy’s — You haven’t been to Andover if you’ve never visited this popular local restaurant. Do try out their French toast made with homegrown raspberry swirl bread as well as the big buttermilk pancakes.
Willy McCoy’s – this restaurant is definitely one of the top go-to places in Andover. It is the perfect place for casual dining and they serve 2 for 1’s all day each day. There are plenty of seats. Staff is always friendly. Mondays are half-price night burgers so if you are a burger lover, you know where to eat.
Pizza Ranch – Service is always fast and friendly. The custom-made pizza is perfect and you do not have to wait long for it to be served. It is the best pizza buffet place in town.
Fun Things to Do in Andover
There are 400 acres of neighborhood and community parks spread throughout the city. For example, Kelsey Round Lake Park is a 136-acre park that is perfect for a number of different activities such as skiing, environmental observation and hiking. The Anoka County Bunker Hills Regional Park has biking and hiking trails. There are also a number of camping activities to be enjoyed.
