History
Nowthen used to be known as Burns Township up until the 30th of June 2008, when it finally incorporated as the City of Nowthen. The interest towards incorporation began at an annual Township meeting in March of 2007, when residents voted to incorporate so as to prevent being annexed by nearby cities. They city got its name from an unincorporated community near the intersection of County Roads 5 and 22 within the former township. It was named by the town’s first ever postmaster, James Hare, who was fond of saying, “now, then” when speaking to other people.

Fun Things to Do in Dayton
The most popular event that you can look forward to in the city is the Nowthen Threshing show. It has been an annual event for 40 years and running. It is actually 3 fun-filled days occurring on the third weekend of August. Activities include tractor pulls, music, sawmill demos and much, much more. There are blacksmithing demos, corn chopping and tours of old restored houses and buildings such as the town church, general store, train depot, log cabin and barn as well as a one-room school house. You can also check out some vintage machines and tractors.
