History

Located in the northwestern part of Anoka County, Ramsey is a suburban city with a population of 23,800 people. Settlement in the area began as a result of the establishment of trading routes along the Mississippi river. Most settlers came on a steamboat known as “The Governor Ramsey” hence, the name. Many people settle in Ramsey due to its rural character, wetlands, wildlife and abundance of housing options.

The educational needs of the city are served by two school districts namely: Elk River 728 and Anoka-Hennepin 11. Students in the city have consistently garnered above state average scores for basic standards in the following subjects: reading, math and writing. Moreover, scores on college entrance exams from Anoka-Hennepin students are also above the national average in the same areas.

The city has a growing business district and the three business parks in the city is a testament to that. These are the Energy Park, Business Park and the Gateway Park. Since 1995 a total of 1,755,660 square feet of industrial space was added. The lead employer in the city is Connexus Energy.

Restaurants & Nightlife

Redstone Café Restaurant — Great service and food. Do try the Cobb salad and the Ruben sandwich. Cobb salad with generous portions, fresh and tasty. The Ruben sandwich is filled to the brim with corned beef, sauerkraut and Swiss cheese.

Acapulco Restaurante Mexico – nice food and atmosphere. Do try the sweet potato fries as well as the salsa and chops. The fajitas are also quite excellent. Delicious Mexican food at a reasonable price.

Ginger Café Restaurant – There is a variety of lunch specials for just 8 bucks. Food is served piping hot and in generous portions. Best Asian cuisine restaurant in town.

Fun Things to Do in Ramsey

Farmer’s Market – takes place each summer between mid-July to early fall featuring locally produced fresh produce. Vendors setup along Center Street just north of the Ramsey Municipal center.

Game Fair – the biggest outdoor family friendly sporting event held each year in Ramsey.

Happy Days Festival — annual hometown festival which usually takes place in early September. The festival offers a plethora of family-friendly activities and events at nighttime including live music, fireworks and more.
